Toddler Joeys Room Information Welcome to the Toddler Joeys Room! In the Joeys Room we cater for up to 12 children aged between 18months and 3 years of age. The room this year is staffed by Kate (Diploma Children’s Services) (M, T,Th,F), and Shelly (Diploma Children’s Services) (T,W,Th, F) and Lauren (Trainee currently studying Certificate III Children’s Services) (M) and Carley (Trainee currently studying Certificate III Children’s Services) (W). These four girls bring a wonderful combination of experience, enthusiasm and eagerness to learn to the room and entire centre. The Joey’s team of staff are a force of unstoppable fun and professionalism. The aim of this room is to create an environment that is healthy and safe and full of opportunities for children’s growth and development. Learning is a huge part of a toddler’s day, we set up experiences that challenge the children and encourage them to explore and learn through choice. We love to engage in messy play which stimulates their senses and challenges their thought processes. As a part of caring for the whole child the staff focus on fostering and extending the following skills:
· Social/Emotional · Gross and Fine motor · Language · Cognitive · Self help · Creative arts · Music and movement OUR PROGRAM Please see Parent Handbook – programming for further details of how our programs are designed and implemented. WHAT TO BRING EACH DAY We suggest that each child has a labeled child sized bag to bring each day, with the following labeled items included in it: · At least 2 full changes of labeled clothes · Any sleep time items, ie, special blanket, dummy etc, all labeled · A labeled bottle (if still having a bottle during the day) MEALS AND SLEEP/REST TIME Meals The centre provides breakfast (if required before 7.45am), morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late snack (after 5.15pm). Each room has a Parent Information Board where the menu is displayed along with a Meal and Rest Record. This chart is completed each day and each child’s food intake is recorded for parents to view at the end of the day. Please see attached menu planner for meals provided and also Daily Routine to see when meals are served during the day. Please do not bring any food into the centre as we have a few children with life threatening Anaphylaxis allergies. Please read our policy Prevention of Food Allergy Exposure for more information on this important procedure. Sleep/Rest The children have a sleep/rest time each day following lunch. This occurs at approximately 12.00pm. There are two options for sleep for this age group. If you wish you child to sleep in a cot, we have multiple cot rooms provided and we will also provide the linen for sleep time. We ask that on arrival that parents place any sleep time items, such as dummies, blankies etc in your child’s cot so it is ready for them at sleep time. We will return these items to their bags on waking. If you choose for your child to sleep with the toddler group on a mattress on the floor you will need to provide linen in a separate sleep bag. The sleep bag should contain the following: · pillow if needed · 2 cot sized flat sheets · cot sized light blanket or doona · special sleep items, dummies, teddies etc Sleep bags can be dropped off each morning in the Joeys large basket in their room. We ask that you take your child’s sleep bag home each day unless your child attends consecutive days. Linen needs to be taken home at least weekly for laundering. Your child’s sleep/rest time will be recorded each day as mentioned above. TOILETING The centre provides all toileting facilities necessary including nappies. In the Joey Toddler room we have set times to change nappies and toilet and of course change and toilet when required individually. Please see Daily Routine for set toileting times during the day. We do record soiled nappies on the Meal and Rest Record for parents to see each day. Learning to use the toilet – when this time arrives (not usually before 2 years) staff and parents need to discuss a plan for your child. Please feel free to make a time to talk to one of the Joey’s staff about your child learning to use the toilet and make the big move from nappies to undies. Likewise, staff will also advise you if they think that your child is showing signs of readiness and make a time to form a plan of action. OTHER INFORMATION Once enrolled at the centre, we provide a comprehensive Centre Handbook. This handbook covers all other areas of information that you will need to be aware of. It also contains some of the major centre Policies that are important to understand. We have a full Policy Manual available to borrow from our Parent Library. Please see staff to organize loan of this document. We truly appreciate all suggestions and feedback on our programs and hope that families feel welcome to be as involved in the room as they feel comfortable. Looking forward to great times and sharing lots of information about your child. Joey Staff Shelly, Kate, Lauren and Carley
